I wonder if the Railway misses us...

They seemed to be hardly Railway children at all in those days, and as the days went on each had an uneasy feeling about this which Phyllis expressed one day.

"I wonder if the Railway misses us," she said, plaintively. "We never go to see it now."

"It seems ungrateful," said Bobbie; "we loved it so when we hadn't anyone else to play with."

Edith Nesbit had a way with words. I'm not sure I can find a better way to describe how I've been feeling about this blog.

I used to visit every day, but I rarely do so now, and as the days go on, I have an uneasy feeling about that. It seems ungrateful.

I used to love it so - the worlds it helped me uncover, the people it helped me meet, the conversations I used to have.

And so, a little like the Railway Children, I thought I'd come back and wave - wondering if anyone still passes by and hoping that someone out there might wave back.

Let me know how you are, tell me what you've been up to, and if you're feeling indulgent, help me come back and play.

Well hello, old friend! I'm waving from across the Atlantic and so happy to see your words. Come back and play. We've missed you around here. I'm busy writing (Soon to be published in the Boston Globe-shameful plug here.) And busy writing what I hope will be a book length memoir and one day, in hopefully the near future, visiting London again.

Bill - I'm so glad to hear your writing is going from strength to strength. Also very pleased to hear you'll be coming back across the pond soon - hopefully this time we'll get to show you a bit of Kent.

Oh, thank goodness! I'm so glad you haven't abandoned the blog! Hope you're all right :)

Your inspired me to take my blog seriously, so I'll always be here to wave back. And I'm sure more will, too.

I hit a rough patch with blogging a few months back, while I was focusing on my twelfth grade finals. Aced them, graduated from school, secured a seat in a great college for an Integrated MA (English/Economics)... so I'm pretty much fine. A bit nervous about leaving the nest, though.

Hope to see more of your posts on my dashboard soon! <3

Oh yes - waving happily from this side of the world.
Here? Medical mayhem, gardening, home renovation. More needed on all fronts. The gardening will be pleasurable.

Hello from across the Atlantic Ocean! I don't think I've ever left a comment, but I've read every single post. Your blog made me realize the power and beauty behind words and motivated me to start my own experimentation with them.

High school is busy with end of the year schoolwork and tests, but summer is almost here! I'm looking forward to cold juicy watermelon and more time to read books:)

Hello Elephant's Child! Well I hope the medical mayhem isn't too awful, and the gardening more than balances it out.

LW - thank you so much for reading and for letting me know you're out there!Cold juicy watermelon and book-reading sounds like a marvellous combination.

Hi Sharon. You were the first to encourage me with your kind words when I started blogging. I think it's ok to dip out of and back into the blog. Life takes over and blogging seems like an indulgence. Maybe this is just a new phase of your blogging 😊

I guess it's ok not to write for a while - its your blog - but nice to hear from you :)
The trouble with blog world is that when you disappear we don't know why.... luckily RSS feeds alert us to your return !

Yes, come back! Please, Sharon. I have missed your words. You shouldn't miss thinking of yourself as a writer; you are a writer.

Hi, Sharon. I'm glad that you have posted again. I've only blogged once or twice a month lately, and not very ambitious posts, because I've been writing a book. I think many of us have to let things ebb and flow once in a while. But I do hope you return. Maybe try a different format, e.g., 50-word posts or observation of the day or whatever, if that helps. But I love your well crafted stories about life.

I guess it takes quite a bit of hard work to write each piece, Sharon. Maybe you wonder if it's worthwhile. Suppose you have to judge if you enjoy the effort, or if you could spend the time doing something else more worthwhile. But don't ever doubt if viewers enjoy reading your posts. Each one is like a little gem, a sparkle in the early morning when I read. Inspires me to write better.

ND Mitchell - that's such a lovely thing to hear - thank you for saying it. And maybe I should indulge the indulgence a little more :)

Fi - I know, I've always hated it when other people disappear without trace and I'm left wondering if they're ok and whether they'll be back. I'm thinking I'll stick around a while longer!

Hillary - thank you. You are, as ever, too kind x

Jennifer - thank you, I'll try!

Blissed Out Grandma - never mind me - what's all this about a book? How very exciting - I clearly need to go over to your blog and find out...

John - I always find the writing is much harder than the words on the page end up suggesting. Your kind words make me think it is still worth the effort - thank you.
